BIOGRAPHY

A native of Oakland, California, Nathan Savant has been praised for being a “charismatic bass-baritone” with “vocal power”. He is currently a Performance Diploma Candidate at Boston University: Opera Institute where he studies with Penelope Bitzas. At the Opera Institute, he is scheduled to perform the Baritone role in Hydrogen Jukebox by Philip Glass and Pandolfe in Cendrillon by Massenet.

In the summer of 2023, Nathan was a Studio Artist at Chautauqua Opera Company where he covered the role of Escamillo in La tragédie de Carmen and sang in the Ensemble for Sweeney Todd.

In the summer of 2022, Nathan was hired as a Resident Artist at Opera North for their 40th anniversary season in Lebanon, New Hampshire. While at Opera North, he sang the roles of Guglielmo in Mozart’s Così fan tutte as well as Marchese d’Obigny in Verdi’s La Traviata.

Nathan received his Master of Music degree for Opera and Vocal Performance at Northwestern University: Bienen School of Music in Evanston, Illinois where he was a student of W. Stephen Smith. While at Northwestern, Nathan performed the roles of Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Marcello in Puccini’s La Bohème under the baton of Patrick Furrer, Putnam in the Midwest premiere of Jake Heggie’s opera If I Were You, and Mr. Gobineau in The Medium.

During the summer of 2021, he joined Festival Napa Valley as a Manetti Shrem Young Artist where he performed the role of Pinellino in Gianni Schicchi.

Nathan received his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York in 2021 where he was a student of Dr. Jonathan Retzlaff. While at Eastman, he performed the roles of Maestro in Prima la musica e poi le parole and Der Schauspieldirektor in Der Schauspieldirektor, as well as filming Kevin Puts’ opera Elizabeth Cree where he played the role Mr. Lister/Karl Marx/Solomon Weil/Voiceover. In 2020, he was also scheduled to perform Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd, which was unfortunately cancelled due to Covid-19.

In the summer of 2019, Nathan was a Young Artist and Schubert Fellow at SongFest in Los Angeles, California. While at SongFest, he sang in masterclasses for Jake Heggie, Martha Guth, and Kyle Ferrill.

Nathan grew up singing in the Grammy Award Winning Pacific Boychoir Academy. While with the choir, he went on eight international tours to six continents. He also performed with many orchestras including San Francisco Symphony, Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra, California Symphony, Oakland-East Bay Symphony, Lithuanian State Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Brazil, and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra.

Along with singing, Nathan is an avid runner, baker and coffee enthusiast.
